Birth date: October 7, 1990
Birthplace: Guam
Position: Center Midfield
Debuting on Guam’s men’s national team in international competition in 2008, Ian Mariano has quickly ascended as one of the island’s top national team soccer players. In 2010, Mariano scored his first goal in international competition in Guam’s 2-1 win over the Northern Mariana Islands in that year’s East Asian Football Championship preliminary round. Mariano’s image also has been published in official FIFA print material distributed to member associations.
Prior to claiming his spot on Guam’s men’s national team, Mariano also played on various youth national teams representing the island in regional competitions. Locally, Mariano’s speed and overall field vision has made him a scoring threat to any opposing team in the island’s premier men’s league. In the 2012 season, Mariano was part of the 4th place team in the league, and led his team in goals scored by the end of the season.
Mariano has been playing soccer for over 16 years and has had a spot on various youth and senior-level national teams for 11 years. Mariano started as a youth player for the Sidekicks Soccer Club before pursuing opportunities to play for Guam’s national soccer teams and a handful of men’s teams in Guam’s premier men’s league.
