Jason Ryan Quitugua Cunliffe achieved well-deserved international attention after being voted Most Valuable Player of the 2010 East Asian Football Championship preliminary round representing Guam, as he helped the island’s national team advance to the second round for the first time. Cunliffe scored a clutch goal in injury time to tie against Macau and solidify Guam’s place as champions of the preliminary round.

Cunliffe’s 23-year soccer background includes playing NCAA Division I men’s soccer for the Santa Clara University Broncos, including playing for its 2003 team that competed in the NCAA Final Four. The Broncos lost to eventual champion Indiana 1-0 in extra time.

Cunliffe also won two youth national championships with the Houston Texans in 2001 and 2002 and was part of the 2001 Texans team that won the Brazil Cup.

Prior to playing with the Texans, Cunliffe had his start in youth soccer at the young age of five years old, playing primarily for Guam’s Tumon Soccer Club. Since first playing soccer, Cunliffe has been afforded opportunities to play in various tournaments all over the world, including Taiwan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Italy, Austria, Brazil, the Philippines, the United States, Belgium and New Caledonia among others.

Cunliffe experienced his first international competition in a Guam national team jersey, captaining the island’s U16 national team in Nepal
